On December 25, 2023, the Youth Initiative for Civic Education and Accountability (YICEA), one of the leading youth organisations in the Northern Region of Malawi, organised a Christmas event that was patronised by ten (10) local Traditional Chiefs from Mzimba District and the event took place at the organisations head office in Ekwendeni.
A total of 100 elderly people attended the function and according to the Country Director of YICEA, Mr. Albert Mkandawire, it was prudent to organise this event in order to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with the elderly more especially from the rural communities around Mzimba District as they do not have easy access to such kind of events on this day.
Speaking to the audience on behalf of the government, the guest of honour Mr Goodwell Kalimanjira, from the Mzuzi District Social Welfare Office, from Mzuzu City, thanked YICEA for the event and appealed for more organisations to do the same for the elderly in their respective communities across the country.
Well-wishers from Scotland supported the event with funds through YICEA.
