Colorado: The Wacko of Nigerian Youths

Colorado is an illicit synthetic drug terrorizing Nigerian youths. Terribly, boys, girls and teenagers are turning into zombies in broad daylight through addiction. This illegal drug has become a nightmare damaging the lives of young Nigerians.

Kolos, as it is fondly called, found its way into Nigeria societies some months ago after a series of warning from the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and since then, it is illegally sold and possessed through black markets all over the streets. Young Nigerians interestingly smoke this terror at hotels, subways, junctions, bus stops, and even at homes.

Virtually, research confirmed it is imported from Indonesia or USA and it has become a nemesis that refused to vanish. The drug hits the brain of its consumer very fast and causes crazy reactions for minutes whereby the body starts to sweat profusely. Its victims strongly drags/knocks himself at an object causing injuries and loss of lives.

Health practitioners have also warned against the dangers of the substance, reiterating that it could cause sudden cardiac arrest.

Part of its effects are as below, just to mention a few:

  • abuser hitting his head against electric pole,
  • swimming in the dirty drainage channel,
  • racing without a chaser,
  • screaming with no reason,
  • heart attack.

Conclusively, many arrests have been carried out by security operatives to stop its abuse but it seems they need to prepare for a long ride. The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency needs to intensify efforts in battling the cartels importing illicit drugs and prosecute perpetrators in-order to save the lives of young Nigerians. The success of our Nation is at stake as we all know the future belongs to the youth. Unemployment was also cited by a respondent as the major cause.
