One of the leading youth led organizations in Chikwawa District, Southern Region of Malawi known as the Community Forum Organisation (COFO), on Friday launched a climate change awareness campaign in Mwalija Village in the Area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kasisi.
The COFO field team held discussions with Kaso Mwalija Youth Club on ‘The Roles Of Youths On mitigating Climate Change’.
The initiative is aimed at helping youths from the district to understand their roles in mitigating the impacts of climate change and this initiative is in line with the objectives of Kaso Mwalija Youth Club such as planting trees and proper disposal of waste at the household level.
According to Mr. Joshua Malunga, the Executive Director of the organization, he said that engaging youths in the battle to mitigate climate change in the district remains the organisation’s top priority.
He added that it is the role of every youth in the district to plant trees, practice re-afforestation and disseminate climate change messages in communities for the benefit of the nation at large.
As of today, Chikwawa is one of the districts in the Southern Region of Malawi that experiences persistent natural disasters and this is as a result of various activities such as charcoal burning and wanton cutting down of trees.
End.
