Community Forum Organisation (COFO) is a youth-led registered Organisation that promotes community – driven approaches for sustainable development and it is based in the Area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Chapananga, Chikwawa district.

COFO has three main areas of operations and one of it is the issue of ‘Health and Wellbeing’ where it provides community healthcare services such as the promotion of good nutrition, SRHR,HIV/AIDS services, maternal and child health services in the rural areas. It also promotes physical activities to combat mental health issues, refrain from sexual violence and also combat non-communicable diseases.

The Organisation is now aiming to ensure that women have easy access to Sexual Reproductive Health services across Chikwawa district through its community awareness campaigns under a project called ‘Thanzi La Onse’. The Organisation conducted research in conjunction with all concerned stakeholders and discovered that a lot of young women are lacking behind on the right information concerning Sexual Reproductive Health services in the district respectively.

It has been noted with great concern that Catherine Dymon, a mother aged twenty-seven (27) with three (3) children, was expecting her forth baby in 2019 but had untreated issues and had to wait five days before getting access to medical treatment at Chapananga hospital only to find the nurses could not assist. Catherine was referred to the Chikwawa district hospital where an operation was conducted but unfortunately experienced a miscarriage. Since 2019 Catherine has been suffering from Obstetric Fistula and is in need of proper medical treatment as things are getting worse due to lack of support.

Catherine Dymon suffers from Obstetric Fistula

According to the Fistula Foundation official webite , obsteric fistula ranks as one of humanity’s most disabling injuries-but it can be cured by a surgery that costs $598 (MK614,732.04)-https://fistulafoundation.org/what-we-do/our-strategy/

Therefore, COFO is appealing to all well-wishers across the country to help with funds amounting to $1084.39 (MK1,114,732.04) to cover costs for medical treatment, transport (fuel), accommodation for the driver and also for food so that Catherine should receive the required medical treatment in Lilongwe.
