Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the winner of the just concluded governorship election which was held on Saturday 18th of March 2023.
Sanwo-Olu who is a candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) won 19 out of the 20 local government of the state and loosing just Amuwo-Odofin local government.
This was made known to the public in the early hour of Monday, 20th of March 2023 and this declaration was made by the State Returning Officer, Prof. Adenike Oladeji.
Sanwo-Olu pulled the total votes of 762,124 in the election defeating 15 other candidates to retain his governorship seat and the closest to him was the Labour Party(LP) candidate Rhodes-Vivour who had 312,329 votes while the People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olajide Adediran came third with 62,449 votes.
