ARMY FOILED ATTEMPTED COUP IN DR CONGO
The coup attempt to overthrow the President of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi was crushed by the army in Kinshasa.
It was reported that Congolese collaborated with foreign nationals in the crime. DR Congo army spokesperson Brig Gen Sylavin Ekenge said “50 suspects including three Americans and a naturalized citizen have been arrested in related to the crime.
On sunday Morning, armed men simultaneously occupied the office of the president as well as the house of his ally, Vitak Kamerhe. Two guards were killed in the process and one assailant was taken down.
Investigation linked the coup to formerly exiled DR Congo politician Christian Malanga who has now acquired American citizenship. Consequently, he was shot to death at the presidential palace after resisting arrest. His son Marcel Malanga was also arrested over the coup plot.

SA COURT BLOCK ZUMA FROM RUNNING AN ELECTION
Former SA president, Jacob Zuma has been barred from being a flag bearer in next week general election.
Zuma has served 15 months in prison for corruption charges which stands as obstruction to his political ambition.
He’s the flag bearer for newly formed uMKhonto weSizwe (MK) party after decamping from African National Congress (ANC).
In South Africa, anyone that served up to 12 months in prison without the option of fine is barred from serving in parliament in order to protect the integrity of democracy.

PROTESTERS DEMAND THE EXPULSION OF US TROOPS IN NIGER BY MID-SEPTEMBER
Nigeriens cannot wait to see US troops leave their country after US and Niger government jointly announced the departure of the troops to take place by 15 September.
Citizens took to the streets with placards showing “You leave, you move, you vanish”. This clearly indicates US army have overstayed their welcome.
This is the second Western power demanded to leave Niger after France as Niger strengthen its relations with Russia.

THE RACE IS ON TO SAVE MUNYAKHO FROM EXECUTION
The campaign to save Stephen Munyakho is still very much on after Saudi Arabia postponed his execution in order to give more time to raise the fund for compensation.
Munyakho was due for execution on Wednesday for murder case committed in 2011 but the law in the Arabian nation permits compensation to be paid at the expense of execution.
Ms Kweye, the mother of Stephen appealed that 5% of the required amount have been raised but needed time to meet up the demand.
Raising the funds has not been easy, the court in Saudi convinced the deceased family to accept a diya offer of blood money.

ICJ RULE SA GENOCIDE CASE AGAINST ISRAEL AS PLAUSIBLE
UN top court is currently hearing the response of Israel to genocide accusation by South Africa.
Israel who has initially regarded South Africa case as “unfounded” and “morally repugnant” responded in the court that the accusation is biased and false claims.
The ICJ temporary judgement when the case was submitted in January is “PLAUSIBLE” which drew world attention. This has subjected the emphasised word to intense scrutiny since the case began.
The evidence of terrible harm to Palestinian rights will play a key role in the decision of ICJ but for now, they are still far from it.
