TWO TEENS ACCUSED OF STABBING AFTER DISTURBING HALLOWEEN ALTERCATION IN SOUTHERN NEW SOUTH WALES

Authorities have charged two adolescents in connection with a stabbing and altercation that took place in Wollongong on Halloween night. Emergency services responded to a park on Burelli Street around 10 PM on October 31 after police received alerts about the incident. It is alleged that a group was involved in a fight, resulting in a 16-year-old boy being stabbed several times. He received treatment from paramedics before being taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

After the stabbing, authorities established a crime scene for further investigation. The following day, at 2:45 PM on November 1, a 16-year-old boy was apprehended in Dapto and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he was charged with intentionally wounding a person with the intent to inflict serious harm. He was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in Children’s Court on two occasions—November 2 and November 12.

Further police inquiries led to the arrest of a 17-year-old, who was charged with affray on November 6. This teenager was also denied bail and is set to appear in Children’s Court on the same day.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities working to gather more information about the events that transpired during the Halloween brawl.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA POLICE INVESTIGATE NEW CLUES IN COLD CASE OF SCHOOLGIRL LISA MOTT, WHO DISAPPEARED WITHOUT A TRACE

The police in Western Australia have shared an update regarding the search for 12-year-old Lisa Mott, who vanished from the coal mining town of Collie over 40 years ago. Detectives from the Cold Case Investigation Squad set up a mobile police unit in Collie, located south of Perth, to further the investigation into Lisa’s case.

On October 30, 1980, Lisa went out to play basketball with friends but never returned home. She was seen heading to the local basketball courts on Throssell Street around 6:45 PM and later visited a nearby pizza shop at approximately 8:45 PM.

Lisa began her walk home around 9 PM and was last observed crossing a railway line towards Forrest Street. At the time, she was wearing a light blue t-shirt, dark blue towelling shorts with white trim, and brown and fawn striped sneakers with white socks.

Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Dowding emphasised that the police have never lost hope in solving this case. He remarked that losing a child without any explanation is a parent’s worst nightmare and urged the community to come forward with any information that could help provide answers for Lisa’s family. Lisa was described as having a fair complexion, a thin build, light brown hair, and hazel eyes, standing at 152 cm tall at the time of her disappearance.

VEHICLE SHREDDED, DRIVERS FORTUNATE TO SURVIVE AFTER SUPPOSED ALCOHOL-RELATED HIGH-SPEED COLLISION IN SYDNEY’S NORTH-WEST

Two drivers narrowly escaped serious injury following a high-speed, alcohol-involved crash that left one vehicle extensively damaged on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 7:15 AM on Old Northern Road in Baulkham Hills, located in Sydney’s northwest.

The collision resulted in the rear section of one car crashing into a nearby house, with the Mazda being torn apart, scattering parts—including the back seat and trunk—up to 50 metres down the road along with other debris.

Fortunately, the 18-year-old driver emerged from the wreckage unharmed, though police later confirmed he tested positive for alcohol with a blood alcohol level of 0.110. His driver’s licence was revoked on the spot, and he faces charges for mid-range drink driving.

The 45-year-old driver involved in the accident was taken to hospital for precautionary checks. Authorities have highlighted this incident as a stark reminder of the risks associated with drink driving and excessive speed, urging the community to make safer choices on the road. The young driver is scheduled to appear in Parramatta Local Court on December 11.

VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT FACES BACKLASH FOR MOUNT ARAPILES CLIMBING BANS TO SAFEGUARD INDIGENOUS HERITAGE

The Allan Labor government has faced accusations of “economic destruction” following Parks Victoria’s announcement to enforce climbing restrictions at the renowned Mount Arapiles. The state agency revealed a new management strategy on Monday, proposing to close half of the climbing routes and the beloved Pines campground, which has been a central spot for Australia’s climbing enthusiasts for many years.

This decision stemmed from a confidential study by Parks Victoria and the Barengi Gadjin Land Council, which identified the area as rich in cultural heritage, containing numerous indigenous artefacts, including scarred trees, signs of stone quarrying, and examples of ancient rock art. However, this move threatens to tarnish Mount Arapiles’ status as a premier climbing destination, negatively impacting the local town of Natimuk and extending repercussions to the regional centre of Horsham.

Melbourne radio personality Tom Elliott criticised the decision on Wednesday, calling it “absurd.” He emphasised that Mount Arapiles is one of the finest locations globally for rock climbing, attracting visitors from around the world who appreciate the stunning landscapes and the climbing experience.

Elliott also expressed concern that the nearby town of Natimuk would suffer economically as it primarily caters to rock climbers. He questioned the rationale behind the climbing restrictions, noting that much of the rock art at Mount Arapiles is not visible to the naked eye, suggesting that the bans may be based on questionable cultural reasons.
