With support from the United Nations Children’s Education Fund (UNICEF) in conjunction with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Tigonjetse Youth Club; a mother body of Development Network for Youth Empowerment (DENEYE) implemented a project called ‘The Youth Innovation Challenge’ which is the first ever project in the group village Chipolonga Traditional Authority, Chikweo Machinga District in the Eastern Region of Malawi.
The project allowed different youth groups to raise problems in their respective communities and to then find solutions which made UNICEF sponsor a total funding of two million five hundred thousand Malawi kwacha for the project.
According to Shalid Ishmael who is the Executive Director for Development Network for Youth Empowerment (DENEYE) but also the Chairperson of Tigonjetse Youth Club, the funds were used to buy training equipment for the beneficiaries and also paying the training tutors.
The beneficiaries were trained in different vocational skill areas such as Tailoring 3, Welding 3 but also Carpentry and Joinery 1. A total number of 14 beneficiaries received goats as from the Pass on Project. An agreement of the training was that the graduates should be able and willing to train their fellow youth in there respective communities in order to ensure the sustainability of the project.
The Guest of honour Senior Group Village Maniya commended the UNICEF and Tigonjetse Youth Club for the initiative while on her part one of the Board Trustee Members for Development Network for Youth Empowerment (DENEYE) appreciated for the project.
