THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA, DIRECTS INTERNATIONAL OIL COMPANIES TO SELL CRUDE OIL DANGOTE REFINERY

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission is taking steps to ensure that international oil companies supply crude oil to the Dangote oil refinery and other refineries in the country. The spokesperson for NURPC, Olaide Shonola, mentioned that they would mandate the international oil companies IOCs to sell to the refineries in the country.

Mr Olaide Shonola said this in response to comments by the Chairman of the Dangote group, Aliko Dangote. In an interview, Dangote said international oil companies in Nigeria are ready to sell crude oil to the 650,000 barrels capacity oil refinery. He says the companies are used to selling and exporting crude oil for foreign exchange and they are unwilling to stop.

The business tycoon said “Africa was not growing because it sells its raw material to the Western world and purchase it as finished goods.” Earlier this year, the NURPC made a new rule stating that oil producers should sell crude to domestic refineries before attending to foreign demands.

It is obvious the international oil companies are not obeying the rule. They still sell most of the crude oil to foreign companies.

The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has intervened and promised ensure the local sale of crude oil to Dangote oil refinery and local other refineries. The spokesperson’s Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission in an interview has spoken about mandating the IOCs to supply crude to the refinery.
