GRAND EGYPTIAN MUSEUM BEGINS PARTIAL PUBLIC ACCESS
A long-awaited museum featuring the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts has opened some of its galleries. After more than 20 years of development, the extensive 120-acre Grand Egyptian Museum near the Giza pyramids will display over 100,000 items, including treasures from King Tutankhamun’s tomb. While the invaluable collection of the boy-king is not yet on view, visitors can explore various artifacts, from pharaonic statues to sarcophagi and mummies.
Although the collection of the young pharaoh is not currently on display, visitors can admire a variety of fascinating artifacts, ranging from grand pharaonic statues to intricately designed sarcophagi and preserved mummified remains.
Originally slated for a 2012 opening, the museum faced numerous delays due to financial constraints, political unrest, and, later, the global Covid-19 pandemic, leading to a staggering total cost of over $1 billion.
The recent partial opening serves as a trial run, following the unveiling of the main hall and stairway last year. An official date for the full opening has yet to be announced, but in the meantime, the museum offers a glimpse into the rich history of ancient Egypt, capturing the imagination of its visitors with its striking and diverse displays.

KENYA’S DEPUTY PRESIDENT HOSPITALISED JUST BEFORE IMPEACHMENT VOTE, SAYS LAWYER
Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua did not show up for his impeachment trial in the Senate due to illness, as reported by his attorney. Initially present in the morning, he was expected to defend himself during the afternoon session before a vote on his removal.
His lawyer, Paul Muite, stated that Gachagua is hospitalised with severe chest pains. The Senate has temporarily adjourned the proceedings, and Muite has requested a delay in the hearing for several days.
Senator Daniel Maanzo noted that Gachagua appeared fatigued but had lunch with other senators earlier, leading many to believe he would attend the trial. Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has paused the session to deliberate on the request for postponement. To remove Gachagua from office, a two-thirds majority of the 67 senators is necessary, as he faces 11 allegations, including corruption and inciting ethnic tensions.
At the start of the trial, Gachagua pleaded not guilty to all charges presented. He has characterized the impeachment process as a “political witch hunt.” Last week, a significant number of MPs in the National Assembly supported his impeachment, paving the way for the Senate’s proceedings.

ELEVATED EGYPTIAN DEMAND LIFTS EUROPEAN FUEL OIL PRICES IN TIGHT MARKET
Egypt’s fuel oil imports for power generation surged, aligning with reduced European supply, which has significantly boosted refiners’ profit margins to their highest levels in over a year.
Higher prices for high-sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) are helping to offset a general decline in margins, although they may also raise costs for industries relying on it, like marine fuel and asphalt production. Strong demand for September shipments has balanced typical post-summer market weaknesses.
Imports peaked at 255,000 barrels per day in September, chiefly from Saudi Arabia, with October levels remaining above the 2024 average, predominantly from Russia and the UAE.
