Due to heavy rains as a result of the havoc cyclone ANA, some districts in the southern region of Malawi have been affected by floods .

One of the heavily affected districts is Chikwawa which has been turned into an island from Thabwa to Kamuzu Bridge resulting in the road being washed away in four places leaving it heavily eroded but also with an impassable single lane from Chikwawa Boma (Dyeratu) to Nchalo.

According to Mr. Anderson Billiat, the Executive Director for Development Network Initiative (DNI) an organisation that is based in the district, four cars are known to be missing. A Mazda Demio with its occupants is missing while the owner of a BMW survived but the car was not found while a Sienta and a truck van are visible but the occupants whereabouts are not known. It is also believed that its occupants might have been washed away with the floods. Mr Billiant continued by saying that they are experiencing a shortage of basic commodities as there is literally no access and electricity has also been terribly affected.
