It is the only government fishing center under the Department of Fisheries in the Northern Region of Malawi with over twenty (20) fish ponds which is constructed along the Lunyangwa Dam in the City of Mzuzu.

The Mzuzu Aquaculture Center recently was harvesting fish from some of its ponds and the most harvested one was the ‘Makumba fish’ which belongs to the famous ‘Chambo family’.
