CORPSE DISCOVERED AS PROBE INTO MISSING MAN’S DEMISE CONTINUES – HAWKESBURY

A man’s corpse has been found following a thorough search in Hawkesbury today, as a suspect faces murder charges in court. In September 2024, authorities received a report about an 82-year-old man from Leppington who had disappeared. The Camden Police Area Command quickly initiated efforts to locate him, but he remained unaccounted for.

During the investigation, a 67-year-old man known to the missing individual provided police with inconsistent statements about the case. After extensive inquiries, law enforcement, with the aid of the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, apprehended the 67-year-old at a residence in Smithfield around 2:45 PM yesterday, 24th October 2024.

The suspect was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with murder, obstructing a serious investigation, and unlawfully disposing of a corpse. He is currently awaiting proceedings in court. Following the arrest, police, supported by the Hawkesbury Police Area Command, executed a search warrant at a site in Upper Colo, where the body of the 82-year-old was suspected to be buried.

Today, the search continued, and this afternoon, authorities discovered a body. Although formal identification is pending, it is believed to be that of the missing man. A post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the cause of death, and a report will be submitted to the Coroner.

A man and a police officer from the Southern region are set to appear in court today following an alleged aggravated break-in in northwestern NSW earlier this month. On 3rd October 2024, emergency services responded to a call from Lightning Ridge, where two men reportedly broke into a residence, tied up a 78-year-old man, threatened him, and stole $100,000 in cash.

The elderly victim suffered injuries to his arms and legs and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Lightning Ridge Hospital, where he was later released in stable condition. The Central North Police District initiated an investigation, which was escalated to the Professional Standards Command after identifying one suspect as an off-duty officer.

PRINCIPAL WARNS AGAINST DISTURBING DOCUMENTARY ON WATER POLO COACH LILIE JAMES’ MURDER

Students at St Andrew’s Cathedral School have been cautioned against viewing a 60 Minutes documentary about the horrific murder of their teacher, Lilie James. The principal of the prestigious Sydney school, where the crime occurred last October, has urgently advised parents to prevent their children from watching the distressing program.

Julie McGonigle, the school’s head, informed parents in an email that the show would air on Sunday, emphasising the importance of keeping children away from it. The documentary features Lilie’s parents discussing the events leading to the tragic death of their 21-year-old daughter, a water polo coach.

In a promotional clip, her mother, Peta, expressed the family’s inability to forgive the perpetrator, while her father, Jamie, condemned the brutality of the act. Both parents firmly rejected the notion that Lilie sent them a text message on the night of her murder.

The crime, which occurred on 25th October 2023, involved Lilie being violently attacked by her former partner and colleague, Paul Thijssen, 24, just after their breakup. Her father remarked on the tragedy, stating, “She was just going to work,” highlighting the senseless nature of the violence.

TWO ELDERLY PEOPLE KILLED WHEN TRUCK CRASHED INTO HOME ON PRINCES HIGHWAY, TOWER HILL

An 81-year-old man and an 80-year-old woman, residents of Victoria, tragically lost their lives in a devastating truck accident on Friday morning along the Princes Highway in the south-west region. Both were killed shortly after 7 AM while in the front bedroom of their home in Tower Hill, located approximately 275 kilometres from Melbourne’s central business district.

A truck, driven by a 70-year-old man from Portland, reportedly crashed into the house after veering onto the wrong side of the road and travelling through a paddock. The couple inside the residence was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. There were no other occupants in the truck.

The truck was believed to be empty and was thought to be en route from Port Fairy to Warrnambool on a 100 km/h road. Investigations into the details of the accident are ongoing, with detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit currently at the site. The Princes Highway remains closed in both directions between Gormans Road and Rocks Road.

Tower Hill is about a 15-minute drive from the regional city of Warrnambool, which had a population of 83 according to the 2021 census.

DAVID CRISAFULLI’S APPEAL TO VOTERS BEFORE THE QUEENSLAND ELECTION

Queensland’s Opposition leader David Crisafulli is appealing to voters ahead of the state election on Saturday. He stated that the choice is between a majority LNP government or a minority Labor government supported by the extreme Greens and the chaotic Katter’s Australian Party, which he believes would lead to disorder. Mr Crisafulli encouraged Queenslanders to “vote for change” when they go to the polls.

During his campaign, Mr Crisafulli faced heckling from a disguised Labor staffer while distributing voting cards in Pumicestone. The staffer, posing as a regular voter, questioned him about allowing his staff a conscience vote on abortion. Initially, he engaged with her, expressing disappointment that she wasn’t supporting his candidate.

The young woman was later revealed to be a staff member for Pumicestone MP Ali King and was seen wearing a red Labor shirt after the encounter. A video captured the moment when one of Mr Crisafulli’s staffers inquired about her true identity, confirming her affiliation with Labor.

This incident highlights the tensions in the lead-up to the election, as both parties work to sway voters in a competitive political landscape.
