This year, in 2023, in the Area of Traditional Authority, Chapananga, Chikwawa District – Southern Region of Malawi, a well-known organisation, established and led by youth, called Community Forum Organisation (COFO) is making a big difference to end malnutrition.
Through the dedication of the field workers, the organisation went on a field trip to celebrate and spread the word on this years Nutrition Open Day. The theme “Diversification of Crops and Small Livestock Farming to End Malnutrition” made a great impact through the hard work of the COFO fieldworkers.
COFO Communication Officer, Mr Precious Stambuli, stated that by diversifying crops, and incorporating small livestock farming, this can play a very significant role in addressing malnutrition, in the rural areas, across Malawi.
Integrated homestead farming and vegetable seed distribution is encouraged as a method of livestock and crop farming to give local farmers the opportunity to provide high value nutritive -dense foods. These foods have a great chance of becoming sustainable and provide a healthy balanced diet to families.
Small livestock farming such as raising chickens and/or goats were encouraged as a good source of proteins and other essential nutrients.
Malnutrition is occurring among lives of the ordinary citizens in rural areas of Malawi and “Diversification of Crops and Small Livestock Farming to End Malnutrition” through COFO, is also working towards ending malnutrition in Malawi through the promotion of integrated homestead farming and vegetable seed distribution.
Community Forum Organisation (COFO) remain ongoing and hard working at the front line. COFO is a key stakeholder in the quest to find answers to tackle the issues and fight against malnutrition.
