Alcaraz recover to reach French Open final

Carlos Alcaraz faces four hour long battle against Jannik Sinner on Friday to qualify for French open final.

The Spaniard started the contest sluggishly before coming from behind to condemn his inconsistent opponent to defeat. The results ranges from 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in favour of ALCARAZ who finally secured his maiden final.

Jannik Sinner gave in at the last two sets of the match but will go ahead to become number one tennis player in the world despite his loss against Alcaraz.

Alcaraz, 21, who is hoping to add more silverware to his Wimbledon and US open titles will wait to face the winner between Alexander Zverev and Casper Ruud in the final on Sunday.

Alexander Zverev tilted in the early stage but steadied his performance to defeat Casper Ruud; 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 on Friday to reach the French open final at Roland Garros.

The 27-year old was competing in his fourth straight French Open semi-final before breaking the jinx to become the second German man to reach the final on the Open Era.

“I’m obviously extremely happy. I have so much history on this court, some of my best and worst memories are on this court,” said Zverev.

In 2022, he encountered tough a moment when he sustained a serious ankle injury against Rafael Nadal in the semi-final.

Zverev gave credit to his opponent for fighting till the end and promised to bring his best to the court against Alcaraz in the final on Sunday.

Defeat against Iceland put English fans in Euro doubt

It was England’s fourth winless game in five as Iceland shocked the star studded English team with a narrow win at Wembley on Friday.

England was playing their final warm up match against the 72nd ranked Iceland, eyeing a victory to lift their spirit going to Germany. But, Iceland had another plan when Jón Dagur Þorsteinsson put Iceland ahead in the 12th minute.

England launched attacking pressure on Iceland with Phil Foden getting a big chance only to drag it wide. Alexander-Arnold and Eberechi Eze were brought in to mount more pressure but Iceland defended solidly leaving no space to penetrate.

The game finally ended as a defeat to England who is going to European championship as a favourite. England will begin their campaign when they take on Serbia in a week on Sunday.

Tyson-Paul bout to go down on May 15

Mike Tyson will take on Jake Paul on November 15 in Texas after the first date was cancelled.

The former heavy weight champion will be 31 years older than his opponent when they slug it out in November. The bout had been planned for July 20, before Tyson was advised by his medical team to withdraw, due to ulcer complaints.

Undisputed women’s light weight world champion, Katie Taylor will also take on Amanda Serrano on a rematch at Dallas Cowboys’ AT & T in Arlington, Texas.

Tyson thanked his medical team for his treatment and promised there will always be one winner regardless of postponement come November 15. “Jake Paul is getting knocked out,” he said.

The Tyson-Paul contest will be live on Netflix and the fight will observe certain conditions which include eight rounds with two minutes per round.

Ujah back to track after 22-month ban

Briton CJ Ujah promised to fight his way to the top as he qualified as fourth fastest for the men’s 100m semi-final in his heat.

Ujah who just served a 22-month ban after failing his drug test was able to finish at 10.23 seconds in his semi-final heat and will return to international competition at the European Athletics Championship in Rome.

Ujah is happy to be received with open arms by his teammates and said “people are entitled to react how they want to and I had to tell them, listen, it was not intentional, I did not mean any harm”.

Ujah will represent Team-Britain in the 4x100m relay at the Olympics after Welshman Jeremiah Azu’s withdrawal.
