FRIENDS AND FAMILY PAY TRIBUTE TO BEAUTIFUL MODEL, ELISE HODDER

A young model, Elise Hodder was hit by a reversing car at a Melbourne park after leaving a rave at Sir Zelman Cowen Park in Kooyong in the early hours on Sunday morning.

The 24 year old model who featured in New York Vanguard magazine was crushed by a speedy reversing car and died at the spot. Another woman, aged 26, was rushed to the hospital after suffering serious injuries to her lower body and a man was also hit but managed to escape injuries.

The 23 year old man behind the wheel, Conor Mathiasson has been arrested and charged with several offences including dangerous driving causing death.

On Monday, the friends of the beautiful model left flowers at Sir Zelman Cowen Park and Hodder’s father paid tribute to her on Facebook.

POLICE ARREST A MAN FOR ASSAULTING HORSE AND OFFICERS DURING PROTEST

A 28 year old man accused of splashing liquid irritants on a horse and four officers during protest in Melbourne last month was arrested and charged to court. 

Thousands of anti-war protesters disrupted traffic in demonstrations against the Land Forces Defence expo on September 11. About 1000 officers were deployed to curtain the situation from escalating but some ended up being assaulted leaving 27 police officers needing medical treatment and 12 horses for assessment.

The accused from Carlton North has been charged with six counts of assault on police and abuse of animals. He and three other men who took part in the assault will appear at the Melbourne Magistrate court on November 21.

WIN FOR TENANTS, BLOW TO LANDLORDS AS RENTAL INCREASES CAPPED UNDER REFORMS

Renters will be greatly favoured and enjoy more protection under new reforms.

The reforms will see rental increase capped to once in a year across NSW, as well as end “no ground eviction”. Landlords will have to provide reasonable reasons to end a fixed term.

Anoulack Chanthivong, Minister for Better Regulation and Fair Trading assures” the move would provide greater certainty and protection for renters”.

The landmark reforms will create fair ground for estimated 2.2 million renters and ensure they pay their rent without hidden changes.

GOVERNMENT MOVE TO BAN SURCHARGES ON DEBIT AND CREDIT CARDS FROM 2026

Australia consumer watchdogs will wage war at surcharges on credit and debit cards in order to reduce cost of living.

Card surcharges will be seriously checked to reduce cost for small business enterprises and customers to improve standard of living.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers stated “the government was prepared to ban debit cards surcharging from the start of 2026, pending further consultation by the Reserve Bank of Australia”.

Hence, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will receive an extra $2.1 million to scrutinize fees on debit and credit cards.

MILLIONS EXPERIENCE FOOD INSECURITY IN AUSTRALIA

About half of low income households are vulnerable to food insecurity since the start of cost of living crisis in 2022.
