Last respect for Chilima as Government plan state funeral for Malawian Vice-President

Malawian government have announced state funeral and 21 days mourning on Wednesday to honour Saulos Klaus Chilima who died in plane crash on Monday.

Malawi President, Dr Lazarus Chakwera has appointed ministerial committee to oversee the plan of state funeral for Chilima and eight others on board when the plane crashed.

Everybody on board died when the twin propeller air craft crashed down in a hilly, mountainous area due to bad weather. The victims include former first lady Shanil Dzimbiri, the ex-wife of former Malawian President Bakili Muluzi, six passengers and three military crew members all died.

The plane was on the move to Mzuzi to attend a funeral of a former government minister when it went missing on Monday. The wreckage of the plane was later discovered in a forest plantation south of Mzuzi.

Nigeria steady plans on economic reforms despite serious hardship

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu assured the nation that his administration will continue their plans on economic reforms amid hardship facing the country.

During the President’s speech on Democracy Day, he acknowledged difficulties Nigerians are going through but stressed the economy is in desperate need of reform for decades.

After a year of the current administration, Nigeria is facing its worst cost of living crisis in years. The price of commodities have risen so high and became unaffordable for consumers.

Many pinpointed the removal of subsidy and devaluation of naira as the main causes of the inflation soaring rapidly to 33 percent. President Tinubu also revealed the plan to set a new minimum wage for the next four years and promised to always listen to the demand of the people.

MPOX killed claimed a life and sent others to hospital

South Africa have recorded first MPOX death since the outbreak of the infection.

Five laboratories have confirmed a 37-year-old-man has died from MPOX after series of tests and medical examinations.

South Africa’s health minister confirmed the news on Wednesday and revealed four other MPOX patients are placed on treatment. The victim died in Tembisa Hospital South Africa, on Monday. All MPOX patients are said to be men within the age of 30-39 without travelling records.

MPOX spreads through close contact, causing flu-like symptoms and pus-filled lesions. WHO has not recommended travel restrictions to curtail outbreak of the infection.

FIFA President attends first ever World Cup qualifier match in Juba

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino attended the South Sudan World Cup qualifier match against Sudan in JUBA on June 11th, 2024 in the new Juba National Stadium.

He was honoured with the presence of Sudan president, Salva Kiir Mayardit and FA President of the South Sudan Football Association Augustino Maduot Parek to commission the stadium after FIFA invested about 7 million USD support its construction.

South Sudan were beaten 3-0 by Sudan but the result did not overshadow the role played by football in creating unity amongst nations.

Algerians protest over inadequate water supply in Tiaret

Residents of Tiaret took to the streets protesting shortage of water supply which forced many queue to access water for their households.

Tiaret is a central Algerian city with less than 200,000 located 155 miles (250 kilometres) south west of Algiers. Protesters in balaclavas set tires aflame and make barricades blocking roads creating unrest over their water been rationed.

Previously, President Bdelmajid Tebboune have acknowledged their suffering at a council of ministers meeting last week, he directed his cabinet to implement emergency aid in Tiaret.

Several government ministers have visited the area and asked for apology from the residents. They also promised that access to drinking water would be restored.
