NIGERIA TAX REFORMS COMMITTEE PROPOSES DAILY SHARING OF FEDERATION ACCOUNT ALLOCATION COMMITTEE (FAAC) FUNDS

The Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform Committee Nigeria is planning to switch from monthly to daily sharing of funds among the three tiers of government to modernise the current system.

This change is aimed at revamping the Federation Account Allocation Committee FAAC disbursement mechanism. The Committee’s Chairman, Taiwo Oyedele, mentioned the need to update the system, likening it to old practices from 1814.

The proposed reform will involve daily disbursements to local, state, and federal governments, moving away from the traditional monthly allocation meetings. The goal is to focus FAAC meetings on national fiscal strategies rather than routine reconciliations.

The Committee’s Chairman Oyedele highlighted the importance of efficient revenue collection, emphasising the need for agencies to collect revenue at one per cent or not at all.

This approach aims to enhance operational efficiency by having agencies focus on their core mandates.
