OLYMPIACOS EYE HISTORY AGAINST FLORENTINA IN THE EUROPA CONFERENCE LEAGUE FINAL

Olympiacos looks forward to make history by becoming the first Greek side to win a European trophy in a Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina on Wednesday.

The Greek side has the advantage of playing the final at Athens which will enable them enjoy more support from the home soil. Surprisingly, they were in excellent form when they beat Aston Villa 6-2 on aggregate in the semi-final to reach the final of the competition.

“It would be amazing! We would go down in Olympiacos and Greek football industry,” said Mendilibar, the coach of the team.

Olympiacos is destined to face Fiorentina, a side that have not lost a match in Europe this season.

Definitely, it will be a tough test for the Greek side as Fiorentina is looking forward to win the trophy for their late general manager, Joe Barone, who died in March.

BELLINGHAM WINS LA LIGA PLAYER OF THE SEASON

Real Madrid and England central midfielder, Jude Bellingham has been awarded La Liga’s player of the season.

The Englishman scored 19 goals and assisted 6 in La Liga while he also netted four times in the champions league en-route to the final.

The 20-year old won the award ahead of his team mate Vinicius Jr., Aetem Dovbyk, Antoine Griezmann, and Robert Lewandowski. He had won German player of the season a year ago before moving to Real Madrid.

Bellingham dedicated the award to his team mates, the coaching staff and Real Madrid fans. He added that it is a pleasure every time playing for Real Madrid. Bellingham is expected to continue is fine form for his country at Euro 2024 in Germany.

USYK-FURY SET UP A CRACKING CHRISTMAS FOR BOXING FANS

Tyson Fury has triggered a rematch clause to face the current World Champion Oleksandr Usyk on 21 December, Saudi Arabia entertainment authority reported.

Fury lost to Usyk for the first time in his career by split decision thereby surrendering his WBC belt to Usyk who becomes the first undisputed heavyweight champion after Lennox Lewis in 1994.

The venue for the bout has not been named yet, but, Al-Sheikh stated it would take place during the Riyadh Season ceremony which was launched in 2019.

The rematch will give Tyson Fury another chance to regain his belt and probably become the World Champion for the third time in his boxing career.

MARTIN PERRY QUALIFIES TO REPRESENT GB AT PARIS 2024

Table tennis player, Martin Perry, is on his way to Paris with the Paralympics GB team, after securing his place at the games.

Perry who is from Drumchapel in Scotland was born with no hands and one leg and has never relented on his dream after lots of trials since 16.

It is a dream comes true for the 30 year old after several failures. “Choosing to play table tennis when you’ve got no hands is nothing short of absolutely stupid, but I have so much fun when I play”, Perry said.

Perry’s wife, Siobhan Forbes has been a great motivator to him all along. They both recently welcome their first child, Byra. She felt emotional and started crying when she received the call of Perry’s qualification. It was tears of joy for her and she’s so proud of her husband.

OSAKA FANCIES HER CHANCE AGAINST SWIATEK IN FRENCH OPEN SECOND ROUND CLASH

Naomi Osaka will have to face world number one Iga Swiatek in the French Open second round on Wednesday.

The former world number one, won her opening match against Lucia Bronzetti to set up an epic showdown in the second round.

The Japanese has never gone past a third round at Roland Garros but remain optimistic this challenge will be different. She became aware there is a chance to face Swiatek during her pre-tournament press conference when people kept asking questions about the draw.

This will be the first ever meeting of the two on clay and the third on any surface. Osaka will be an underdog but she’s excited with the draw and would take her chances against the current number one female player.
