THE GOVERNOR OF NIGER STATE NIGERIA HAS RELEASED SOME INMATES FROM PRISON

The Governor of Niger State Nigeria Governor Mohammed Umar Bago marked his first year in the office by releasing 30 inmates in some of the correctional centres in the state capital Minna.

The visit to two correctional centres in Minna, is one of the activities to mark the Governors’ one year in office. Governor Bago who was represented by Abubakar Usman the Secretary to the State Government during the visit announced the payment of fines for 30 selected inmates whose cases are minor.

The Governor’s representative Abubakar Usman during his visit also gave malaria drugs and food items to the wardens of the centre.

He admonished the freed inmates to be good representatives of the state and the country when going back to the society. He also promised to empower the freed inmates with agriculture and other entrepreneurial skills to make them useful members of the society.

The Governor’s wife, Fatima Bawo also marked the first year in office anniversary at the state orphanage home with the orphans at her own end. Stating that the Governors regime has plans for the children.

THE MINISTER OF WOMEN AFFAIRS IN NIGERIA HAS CALLED FOR FAIR TREATMENT OF WOMEN

The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs Barr Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye is worried about the existing and common cases of gender based violence, therefore she advocated for fair treatment of women and girls while addressing the urgent need for suitable measures and policies to ward off this unfriendly practice.

The minister said this at the annual High Level Gender Based Violence Summit of Traditional and Religious Leaders in Nigeria and West Africa under the auspices of the United Nations Women and Ford Foundation at Abuja.

She also spoke about the some of the measures her ministry has taken to address the gender based violence. She says the ministry has established mobile courts in some states in Nigeria. The mobile courts will soon start operating on the quick order of justice on matters relating to sexual and gender based violence against Nigerian women and girls in collaboration with the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.

The minister also stated that they cannot address the issue alone they need the help of religious leaders and royal fathers, with their help the gender based violence and other harmful ways will be out of the society.

The Honourable minister stated that some Nigerian states has benefited from the sustainable empowerment items and the ministry is looking to empower 100 female orphans who were lined up for the proposed mass wedding in Niger state.

THE NIGERIA SENATOR QUESTIONS THE RECENT SACK OF CBN WORKERS

On  May 24^th 2024, the Central Bank of Nigeria sacked 200 staff members and earlier sacked 117 staff members between March and April 2024, making 317 staffs evicted from work.

The Nigeria Senator of Delta-North, Senator Ned Nwoko, has questioned the recent sacking of the 317 workers by the Central Bank of Nigeria and he urged the senate to investigate the layoff.

The Senator told the news agency of Nigeria in Abuja that the sacking was “too hasty” hence the need to question the circumstances surrounding it. He said the Central Bank of Nigeria didn’t consult the relevant stakeholders including the labour unions, before they took the action.

He says the senate should mandate its committees on Employment, Labour and Productivity, as well as that of public service to look into the terminations.

NIGERIA STOPS ELECTRICITY SUPPLY TO WEST AFRICA COUNTRIES

The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has recently instructed the grid operator to disconnect supplies to customers overseas to boost domestic supply of electricity.

The salesmen and saleswomen in Togo are complaining about the lack power supply since Nigeria disconnected electricity off some West Africa countries.

The affected countries have felt the effect of this disconnection. The citizens of the Togo are lamenting bitterly as they import a large part of their electricity from Nigeria and the country owes the Nigerian electricity operator several million dollars.

“The situation is suffocating us, as it has affected the economy and sales badly” a Togo citizen laments.

The Togo Minister of State for Energy and Mines, Mila Aziable has denied Togo’s debt to the Nigerian electricity operator at a press conference.

THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE APPOINTS NEW INTERPOL HEAD AND FORSEC

The Nigeria Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun appoints two senior police officers to tactical positions within The Nigeria Police Force as an attempt to boost the competency of the Force and an approach to fighting crimes.

Police Force Assistant Inspector General Yetunde Longe has been appointed as the Force Secretary and she takes the secretarial role at the Force Headquarters to see policies and directives of the Inspector General are executed effectively, and also synchronize the affairs of the senior officers.

Assistant Inspector General of The Nigeria Police Force Idowu Owohunwa

Assistant Inspector General of the Nigeria Police force Idowu Owohunwa has been assigned to the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja. He is responsible for improving international police cooperation and make sure Nigeria fulfils its obligations within the global INTERPOL framework.

The Inspector General of Police complimented the senior officers for their hard work and excellent service to The Nigeria Police Force.

The newly appointed officers are to resume their position with immediate effect after the retirement of their predecessors.
