YICEA DONATES VARIOUS ITEMS TO THE NEEDY

Youth Initiative for Civic Education and Accountability (YICEA) with support from God Cares Rights Foundation and Mary Young from Scotland, donated various assorted items to a total of 150 most needy community members in Elunyeni, Khuyu and Kamuwoli, in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mtwalo, Mzimba district, Northern Region of Malawi.

According to Mr. Albert Mkandawire, the Executive Director of the Organisation, this initiative started in December 2022 and it is an ongoing program. The aim of the program is to provide basic necessities of life to the elderly, disabled and also orphans in the target project communities where the organisation operates.

Mr. Mkandawire continued by saying that his Organisation also accommodates the elderly, mostly because they are always side-lined by some members in their respective communities as they are suspected of practicing witchcraft due to their old age. Many of the elderly do not have anyone to lean their shoulders on for help.

YICEA is a youth-led organisation which was formed in 2017, and it is situated at Ekwendeni Trading Center in Mzimba North. It has a team of 16 members and the organisation partners with St Michaels Skills Development Centres and Plan Malawi, just to mention a few.

Through St Michaels Skills Development Centres, YICEA is running a program called Youth in Employable Vocational Skills where tailoring skills are being offered to young vulnerable mothers that have nothing to do after becoming victims of early marriages and pregnancies respectively.
