Youth Organisation leaders from various Traditional Authorities in Machinga district, Eastern Region of Malawi, gathered to propose and discuss issues concerning various community awareness campaigns that will help to sensitize the youth on harmful traditional cultural practices, unintended teenage pregnancies and gender-based violence.
The proposed awareness campaigns will be led by Shalid Ishmael who is the district coordinator for Youth Wave Malawi in the district together with other supporting partners such as the Centre for Youth Empowerment and Civic Education – CYECE; Amref Health Africa in Malawi; Malawi Human Rights Resource Centre – MHRRC; Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Alliance – SRHR and the CHRR who will be working hand in hand to implement the Power-To-Youth Programme.
The beneficiaries of the Power to Youth programme will be adolescent girls and young women since they are the most victims of sexual harassment, forced marriages and other harmful traditional cultural practices that always affect their education progress in district respectively.
