LARGE CROWDS PROTEST IN NZ TO SUPPORT MĀORI RIGHTS

Māori rights under threat

Thousands moved out to protest at New Zealand parliament buildings in Wellington after government unveiled its first budget, revealing tax cuts and savings in areas of housing and conservation.

Protests were also held in Auckland, Tauranga and Christchurch leading to disruption of traffic.

Protesters were waving the red, white and black Māori flag showing support to the symbol of Māori Independence. Māori is an ethnic minority of Polynesian and Melanesian decent who live in New Zealand.

Though, the finance minister, Nicole Willis dismissed allegations of cutting down the programs benefiting Māori by saying the new initiatives will benefit all.

FOUR MORE HOSTAGES HELD BY HAMAS CONFIRMED DEAD

Four Israeli’s hostages abducted by Hamas on October 7 have been confirmed dead by IDF.

The four men were reportedly killed by Hamas during their encounter with Israeli troops in Khan Yunis in Southern Gaza. Their bodies are still being held by Hamas as ransom.

Previously, Hamas had released a video showing three of the men in December but stated Nadav Popplewell died in Israeli strike. Investigation just confirmed his death in recent weeks.

The four men are British-Israeli Nadav Popplewell 51; Chaim Peri 79; Yoram Metzger 80 and Amiram Cooper 85.

UK Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, said that he was greatly saddened to hear of Nadav’s death and sent his condolences to their families.

SON’S TRIAL COULD HAMPER BIDEN’S RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

US President, Joe Biden may be forced to choose between family and office as his son’s gun possession trial began on Monday.

Biden stated “I am a president, but I’m also a dad.” He also added “as president, I won’t comment on pending federal cases, but as a dad I have boundless love for my son, confidence in him and respect for his strength.

The President’s statement proves his love and support for his son amidst political sensitive period. His son faces up to 25 years in prison if found guilty of possessing handgun purchased in 2018 with an invalid document.

Apparently, Hunter Biden struggles with drug addiction and it has been discussed publicly. His dad confirmed that he has worked on it and fixed it.

FLOODS DISPLACED MANY AND KILLED FOUR IN SOUTHERN GERMANY

Heavy rain in southern Germany have chased thousands out of their homes and killed at least four people in Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany.

Three of the victims were found dead in a flooded-in-flooded basement on Monday while the other man is a firefighter that died during service.

German Chancellor, Olaf Sholz have visited affected areas to assess the damage caused by the weather disaster on Monday. He said “We cannot neglect the task of halting man-made climate change.”

Flooding from River Danube has made carmaker Audi suspend production until further notice. Consequently, a state of emergency has been declared in Bavaria and rescue operations have begun.

LIGHTNING INJURED 18 IN CZECH REPUBLIC

A tree struck by lightning injured eighteen people on Sunday in Czech Republic.

The victims were said to be sheltering under the tree in Liberec-Vratislavice castle park, located in northern Liberec when the strike happened.

Identities of the victims have not been provided but it was confirmed children were among the victims taken to the hospital for treatment. Report from Liberec Regional Hospital states it had received 17 conscious patients with a child airlifted to a hospital in Prague.

There have been reports flooding and heavy rain in the country over the weekend. Therefore, citizens are advised on precautious steps to follow when caught outside in a thunderstorm.
