THE NIGERIAN AMBASSADOR TO LIBYA DISSUADES NIGERIANS AGAINST IMPROPER MIGRATION
The Nigerian Ambassador to Libya, Mohammed Mohammed has warned Nigerians who migrate to foreign countries through the dessert and Mediterranean Sea.
He has encouraged Nigerians to think well before starting illegal migration. In his words, which was issued in Tripoli the capital of Libya, the ambassador highlighted due process as the key to any migration process.
According to the ambassador, most improper migration usually ends up in slavery and sexual exploitation in some countries in Europe and other parts of the world.
He commended the Libyan authorities and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) for easing the release of some Nigerian migrants in detention in the country and also aiding their deportation back home.
The ambassador says that 122 deportees which included 52 males and 39 females, seven of whom were saved victims of human trafficking, with 21 children and 10 infants were sent back to Nigeria, transporting them from Mitiga International Airport through a chartered flight expected at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Lagos Nigeria.

THE NIGERIA PRESIDENT SIGNS THE BILL TO RETURN TO THE NATIONS OLD NATIONAL ANTHEM
The president of Nigeria, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the bill to regress to Nigeria’s old national anthem “Nigeria we hail thee” proposed by the Nigeria Senate and House of Representatives.
Some of the stakeholders shared their concerns at the lawmaker’s proposal. The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice aired their thoughts on the need for wider consultation.
The Nigeria Senate President Godswill Akpabio said that President Bola Tinubu approved the bill at a joint sitting of the National Assembly as he marked his first year in office as the President of Nigeria.
The old national anthem composed on 1st October 1960 when Nigeria gained Independence will replace the current national anthem.
The Nigeria national anthem has officially been reversed to the old national anthem from “Arise o compatriot” to “Nigeria we hail thee”.

TWO YOUNG MEN WERE MISTAKENLY KILLED IN EKITI STATE NIGERIA
An incident happened Omisanjana area Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.
According to reports, there was an accident in the vicinity, and some of the youths in the area attempted jungle justice, they surrounded the driver and set the vehicle ablaze.
The Ekiti State police command were called to calm the settings, but the youths showed no sign of retreat despite the arrival of the officers from Ekiti State police command of The Nigerian Police Force.
While trying to control the situation, there was an accidental discharge of bullets from one of the officer’s guns, which hit two of the youths. The victims were rushed to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital but they didn’t get through.
The spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command Deputy Superintendent of Police Sunday Abutu said a prudent investigation has begun.
He also said that “The officer responsible for the shooting has been disarmed, arrested and detained and shall be made to face disciplinary action immediately”.
The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Akinwale Kunle Adeniran has sent his condolences to the families of the deceased and assured them justice shall prevail.

UNITED BANK OF AFRICA EMERGED AS BEST BANK IN WEST AFRICA
At the annual African Banker Awards 2024, organised by the African Bankers Magazine, United Bank of Africa has won the Best Regional Bank in West Africa.
The event took place at JW Marriott Hotel Nairobi in Kenya, it was well attended by 300 of the Continent’s leading figures in banking and finance and UBA has been recognised as the Best Regional Bank in West Africa.
UBA celebrated 75 years of delivering to Africa as Africa’s Global Bank. The award was received by the Managing Director of UBA Kenya Ms. Mary Mulili.
Ms. Mary Mulili spoke about the importance of this award as part of the bank’s commitment to its customers and partners.
She also stated that “We are honoured to be recognised as the Best Regional Bank West Africa, the award is a result of the hard work, dedication and innovation of the entire UBA team. This award is not just a recognition of our past achievements but a motivation to continue striving for greatness in the years to come.

GLO EMERGES AS THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS OF THE YEAR
The Nigerian telecommunications company Globacom Limited has emerged the winner of the 2023 Champions Newspaper Telecommunication Company of the year award.
It was disclosed that Globacom received the award at a yearly award event organised by the Champion Newspaper Limited in Lagos, Nigeria.
The honour of the award strengthens Globacom’s position as Nigeria’s most innovative telecoms operator focused on giving affordable tools of communication that will change lives and business.
The Managing Director of Champion Newspaper Dr. Nwadiuto Iheakanwa in her welcome speech explained the reasons for the awards ceremony.
