THE NATIONAL LABOUR CONGRESS AND TRADE UNION CONGRESS OF NIGERIA SHUTS DOWN THE NATIONAL GRID
The Labour union actions led to a blackout nationwide as they shut down the national grid.
The National grid stopped functioning around 2.19 am on Monday, June 3rd 2024.
The shutdown began in Benin and affected substations in Ganmo, Benin, Ayede, Olorunsogo, Akangba, and Osogbo. Power generating units had to shut down some of their plants.
The transmission company of Nigeria TCN initiated grid recovery around 3.23 am by using the Shiroro hydroelectric substation to supply electricity to the Katampe Transmission Substation.
Transmission Company of Nigeria TCN is working to restore normal electricity transmission across the country.

THE ACADEMIC STAFF UNION OF UNIVERSITIES JOINS THE NATIONWIDE STRIKE IN NIGERIA
The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and Trade Union Congress TUC declared a nationwide strike which began on Monday June 3rd 2024, due to the failure of the Nigeria Federal Government to reverse the hike in electricity tariff and come to conclusion on the bargain of minimum wage.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU Nigeria has joined the ongoing nationwide strike arranged by the National Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress Nigeria
The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities Nigeria Emmanuel Osodeke, in a statement has directed lecturers in universities across the country to join the strike as an associate member of the congress.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU had been brooding over a strike action after the condemning the failure of the Nigeria Federal Government to appoint Governing councils for the Federal Universities.
ASUU has decided to join the ongoing nationwide strike as an associate of the organised labour and the Union might continue even after the Federal Government and the NLC and TUC reach an agreement.

THE NATIONAL AGENCY FOR PROHIBITION OF TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS NIGERIA HAS ARRANGED THE FOUNDER OF ARROW OF GOD FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING
National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP Nigeria, has taken the founder of Arrow of God Orphanage, Clara Chinwe Deborah Ogo, who is 83-years old, to court for human trafficking.
The woman is facing charges for the alleged buying and selling of people for any purpose.
The arraignment occurred at the Federal High Court in Awka Judicial Division. Clara Ogo owns an orphanage in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Anambra State, and also has branches in Lagos State.
She is accused of involvement in illegal adoption and the sale of babies, as revealed by an investigative journalist in 2023.
Following these allegations, NAPTIP conducted a thorough investigation, leading to Ogo’s arrest on October 3, 2023. The case involves a charge of buying and selling a 5-month-old baby girl.

THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE NIGERIA IS SET TO DELIVER LECTURE AT UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN NIGERIA
The Police Chief, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, will give the first Personality Lecture at the renowned University of Ibadan.
The talk titled “The Nigeria Police Force and the Management of Internal Security” will focus on the Nigeria Police Force’s role in handling crises in the country.
This special event will have IGP Egbetokun speaking to an esteemed audience including scholars, security experts, students, and the public, discussing the challenges of managing internal security in Nigeria and sharing insights into modern strategies to address these challenges effectively.
The Personality Lecture, organised by the TETFUND Centre of Excellence in Multidisciplinary Studies of the University of Ibadan, aims to connect academia with practical reality and encourage discussions on enhancing security in the country.
The Police Chief appreciates the University of Ibadan for the invitation and looks forward to a productive engagement to support peace and security efforts in the country.

THE SECRETARY TO THE GOVERNMENT OF THE FEDERATION CALLS FOR EMERGENCY MEETING WITH THE LABOUR
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in Nigeria, George Akume, has requested the presence of organised labour for an urgent discussion to prevent the current strike related to the new national minimum wage.
The President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Comrade Festus Osifo, confirmed this information.
Labour representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress and TUC are en-route to the SGF’s office for the meeting.
The meeting’s outcome will determine whether the strike, which has disrupted economic activities, will be called off.
Additionally, the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage have invited and organised a labour meeting scheduled for Tuesday, as confirmed in an invitation received in Abuja on Monday.
