SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN REPRIEVE KENYAN MAN EXECUTION IN SAUDI ARABIA
Social media outrage saved a Kenyan man who was about to be executed in Saudi Arabia.
Stephen Munyakho was sentenced to death in 2011 following a brutal fight with his colleague in the Arab nation. He and his colleague stabbed one another and were wounded severely but only Munyakho was able to survive. Therefore, Munyakho received the death sentence.
According to Saudi law, the death sentence can be lifted if the family agree to take compensation for their loss.
Munyakho is a son of Dorothy Kweyu, a veteran journalist who championed the Bring Back Steve Campaign to raise the funds ($940,000) required to pay the deceased family.
Just two days before his execution, Saudi Arabia granted the request to postpone his execution in order to allow further negotiations between the parties.
